Popular Personal Blogs

Here is a roundup of great personal blogs.

Finding inspiration can be tough.

If you want insight on what readers gravitate towards, you should observe what has worked for others.

Whether you already have a blog, are thinking about starting one, or just want some ideas for reading material, this list includes some favorite popular personal blogs to get your creative juices flowing.

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, this is a great list of different types and styles to start with, so that you can see how others have built theirs out to be their main source of income.

All of the mentioned bloggers here make a solid living with nothing besides their blogs.

These are proven, successful entities.

And, they are entertaining to boot.

Isn’t that what a blog is really for anyway – people sharing things about their lives in a fun, personal, and relate-able way?

But these blogs are more than just mere entertainment; they represent the long-term results of how hard work and perseverance can pay off if you’re willing to suffer through the bumpity-bump chaotic life of a blogger.

Some of the blogs in this list made over $500,000 in profit last year, proving that this industry can generate income when marketed correctly, just like any other business.

For The People, By The People

It’s easy to forget that blogs are built by people and are intended for other people to read, in order to (indirectly) speak to each other.

The blogs in this list represent people who have connected with many others as humans who want to help and teach others through the power of the (virtual) pen.

Each of us has a voice that someone wants to listen to. If you think you don’t, you probably just haven’t found yours yet or you are too scared to reveal your true self.

You might be writing for the masses instead of writing from a place that is authentically you.

Why is one blog driving so much traffic when so many others are not?

If you’re reading this, you might be trying to find that “it” factor that has worked for others in making them successful.

The thing is, no two blogs are exactly alike in regards to their creator’s background.

So, what do successful blogs have in common?

Are they only done by expert writers?ย No.

Are they limited to professionals with years of skills and experience in marketing to a crowd? No.

Are they only created by those with master’s degrees in social marketing? No.

What the most successful blogs DO have that the others do not are two things: longevity and adaptability.

Here are some of the commonalities I noticed with successful blogs:

  • Successful bloggers overcome rough periods of ups and downs with fluctuations in the online world, such as Google’s many algorithm changes, social media platforms coming and going, seasonal changes, and reader behavior.
  • They connect with people in a personal way.
  • They’re brave; not afraid to try.
  • They expose their own vulnerabilities to the world.
  • They tell real stories, even when the consequence might lead to harsh criticisms or humiliation.
  • They fail, but more importantly, they learn from those failures.
  • Above all, successful bloggers with a solid following have blossomed into their authentic selves. They speak from a voice that is truly theirs and theirs alone.

Make no mistake, NONE of these blogs were a success from the beginning. They started out as confused as the rest of us.

The difference is they didn’t give up.

Defining Success

Success means bags of money, right?

WRONG.

While some bloggers enter the blogging world for what seems to be easy money, they will quickly learn that it’s not the simple thing they set out to do. It’s rare to make any money or drive any traffic for your first year which will be hard, painful, stressful, did I say HARD, work.

Successful blogs should not be measured by the dollars earned; money is just a byproduct of the actual success factor, which is a high number of engaged readers.

Blogging is such an interesting process because it is more than anything a battle with yourself and not a competition.

Like the game of golf, you are really flying solo to see if you can do better than the day before.

“Can I learn to write better, can I make my graphics better, can I say what I want to more clearly and concisely, can I drive more traffic, can I win for today?”

It’s a day-to-day roller coaster and you will have to find ways to motivate yourself with small wins each and every day.

It takes people with strong moral fiber to continue the climb with so little to show for it for so long.

The true success of a blog, or any business for that matter, comes with being satisfied with your own creations first, and only then – sharing it with others who want some of what you’ve got to offer.

And when the tides rise and fall as they surely will, find a way to ride the currents instead of being drowned by them.

The websites gathered in this round-up are intended to show you different versions of blogging “successes”, so that you can dissect them and understand the recipe for why these blogs have succeeded where others have not.

You might have a different takeaway than I did.

What I learned from them was this: continually learn, flexibly adapt, and NEVER give up.

Scroll down through them all or jump to the category that interests you.
