Personal Blog Examples

I’m always on the hunt for a great blog. If you’re like me, and looking for some Personal Blog Examples – whether to get some ideas on starting your own blog or just for purely entertainment purposes – look no further.

Here are a few great blogs. (Sounds like the name of a movie – but an incredibly boring one).

This list has a little something for everyone ~ from personal ramblings and musings, to cooking, home decor, and exercise.

Some of these blogs are really profitable – and some are just hobby blogs run as a way for their creators to connect with others.

If you want a list of incredibly successful and popular blogs, jump to this post on Popular Personal Blogs.

In The Beginning, There Were Blogs

Actually, there were these things called BBSs – Bulletin Board Systems – basically a way to post information that others could see or have a chat with someone on the other side of the world through this crazy invention called the internet.

Yes, I remember those days.

And then, came websites, and search engines like Lycos and AltaVista.

And these engines, would take you to sites that looked like this:  Captain Marvel retro throwback website (which I think is ingenious for a movie set in the 90’s).

Not only does this remind me of the website we had for our own store in the 90’s, it looked like every other site out there before the turn of the millennium, including my MySpace page – which if I’m recalling correctly, had a pepto-bismol colored background with dancing icons. Oh the horror.

At the time, it was SO cool (to me, at least). It was a simpler time, when fancy websites meant pixelated rainbow gradients, and GIFs that flashed with a horrendous, busy background.

The more things you could throw on a website’s page (and not bring it to a complete crawl,) the better.

And then there were blogs. Blogs used to be a way to communicate personal stuff – a journal of rants and raves, likes and dislikes, opinions… that suddenly, the entire world had access to.

Nowadays, they are not always that, for better, or for worse.

Current day blogs are more often than not one of the following: ways to make money, ways to teach a hobby, ways to sell courses, and ways to make people feel not good enough about their lives if yours doesn’t include picture-perfect island sunset shots of you half dressed hanging off of a boat.

I don’t know about you, but I feel like my life’s photos will never include me stepping out on the streets of Milan in a flowing red dress and stiletto heels. Maybe that’s unfortunate, but I just prefer jeans and a comfy soft top and I don’t feel like my life suffers because of it.

I’ve never been one to impress anyone, and I wouldn’t know how to if I tried. Sorry, not sorry.

So, getting back to blogs, let’s just talk strictly good ol’ fashioned journaling (web plus log = weblog = blog).

I’ve put together a list of Personal Blog Examples that resonate with me in some way – why, because they are real people with real stories having real successes and failures.

While I admit I do still guilty pleasure me some “if I won the lotto my life might include me transforming into THIS,” fantasy-life blog perusing… but this post is targeted towards real-life, personal journey bloggers.

Enjoy!

Elle’s Note: In a weird way, I feel like I know these people really well – Sherry’s was the first blog I ever read when I needed painting tips for our old house that had wood paneling. I’ve followed her ever since, which was probably 10 years ago or so. It’s been such a cool thing to watch them go from hobbyists to renowned remodelers – even having their own products sold in Target. When I saw that I squealed! Sherry & her hubby still run their amazing blog but have a lot more articles to read these days, a podcast, as well as books for sale.
